New Year, new project!
No I’m not forgetting you dear Malval board. I just need a little break and I will be back to your dark sinuous streets and glooming underground…
For this new project, I wanted to explore the Fallout universe, especially with the upcoming release of the corresponding miniatures wargames Fallout: Wasteland Warfare by Modiphius.
I love miniatures wargaming and I love the Fallout universe. I have very fond memories playing to the first Fallout game with my brothers when we were kids. So when I discovered on toneytower blog that Modiphius was working on such project, I instantly knew that I had to make a board for it! The game is set to release in March 2018 but you can already pre-order the first wave of minis on their webshop ๐
Inspiration
The great thing with the Fallout universe is this very interesting mix between a retro-furturistic theme and the post-Apo Nuclear war theme. It has the round, elegant lines of the 50s fashion mixed with the futuristic vibe of having widespread use of nuclear technologies enabling access to robots and energy weapons.
As the first wave of miniatures will be drawn from the Fallout 4 video game, I looked for inspiration from this specific episode.
Project
The objective for this project is to build a modular 122 x 61 cm (4×2 ft) board divided in two squares 61×61 cm (2×2 ft) each. The main reason to have two modules is because it’s easier to store and transport. Plus you can always use only one of the module for small skirmish games.
The first module will be very basic with an electric pylon in the middle surrounded my rocks and a dead trees forrest like on the picture above.
The second module will try to loosely mimic the Drumlin Diner that you can see in the Fallout 4 video game. As this module was more complex than the first one, I did a quick 3d model to make sure that the size and place of each item would be right. In red this is the diner, in green the cars and in brown the dead trees.
To be honest this “small” project will be a great way to take my mind off things after almost a year working and focusing on the Malval project.
