Fallout board – 4Ground kits

Usually, I wouldn’t recommend using MDF scenery kits as the level of details is far below the one we get with resin kits and the porosity of MDF make it very hard to have a smooth paint finish. However, as I didn’t found any resin scenery kit for an electric pylon or a diner, I ended up looking at the MDF scenery kits. I found two kits fitting my need in 4-Ground catalog, which is great because the kits this company makes are pre-painted, meaning that the MDF is less porous and make it easier to paint.

I think I changed a little bit my mind regarding MDF scenery kit. XD

Actually, if you customise them with some plastic cards and find a way to seal the porosity of the MDF surface, you can do some great sceneries at a moderate cost. I would be curious to know your own opinions/experiences about MDF scenery kits?

  1. Nice work so far. I bought a few MDF building kits awhile back but have not yet assembled them (story of my bloody life, eh?) So I’ll be watching your builds with interest.

  2. Sarissa Precision make loads of kits Matt including a diner but they are not pre-painted. Overall I think they are too flat and have no relief or texture so if I use them now I prefer to clad them using the kit as a shell if that makes sense. My next post which will appear this weekend makes reference to this and might be of interest to you.

  3. Wow those actually look pretty nice. I can’t wait to see your fallout stuff. Always loved those games and even considered leaving my comfort zone to make some sort of fallout diorama.
    Keep the updates coming!

  4. That’s going to look nice. Fallout has an excellent PA wargaming ambiance. Looking forward to seeing the finished boards.
